About us
Founded
in 1992 to provide a "place of rest", Shiloh is a drop in centre
open three days a week as a sanctuary for the marginalised of society
over 18.
On offer, at no cost, to those men and women whose lives have been wrecked
by drink, drugs and various types of abuse, is a Christian welcome.
Our "guests" are fed physically and spiritually (there is a
chapel on our Westgate premises and prayer and expert guidance is readily
available).
There are facilities for showering and washing clothes and also a supply
of clothing, blankets and bedding and items of furniture for those being
housed.
We are open from 9.30am to 1.15pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
and offer food and non-alcoholic drinks (mainly tea and coffee) to anyone
who comes in - often by referral from other agencies in the town - with
an average of 50 meals (basic breakfast and/or two course lunch) served.
Clearly there are rules (no drinking, drug taking or swearing on the
premises) and the team of volunteers, drawn from various churches and
recognised work placement agencies come with a heart to serve and help
the hurting.
It is by God's grace and provision Shiloh has progressed from the early
days of serving soup and sandwiches on the streets to occupying well equipped
premises, which also include a bedroom.
The charity - run by Trustees - receives no major funding other than
official Council Tax relief and when Shiloh closed briefly for unavoidable
reasons, the local police reported a significant increase in anti-social
and criminal activity.
It's thanks to a group of dedicated donors (mainly anonymous), that the
doors stay open so that God's light might be shone in dark circumstances.
Holy Trinity Church are pleased to support Shiloh.
We hope to include some pictures here soon.
Opening Hours
9.30am to 1.15pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
How you can help
As explained above, we received no official funding and rely on donations
from the general public and local firms. If you are able to make a donation,
either as a one-off or a regular contribution, it would help greatly with
our work.
We also need:
- basic food stuffs (tins of beans, spaghetti, tomatoes etc)
- decent clothing of all shapes and sizes
We are a registered charity, number 1066577.
